Open guideField note 01
Sort out the host before anyone loads in.
Big Walk is not a drop-in lobby game. The host owns the save, the world adapts to the group size you choose, and there is no matchmaking. That makes the first ten minutes of decisions more important than the first ten minutes of gameplay.
- Pick the player with the steadiest connection to host.
- Choose 2, 3, or 4+ player world based on who will reliably be there.
- Test in-game voice and text before leaving the spawn area.
- Decide who will keep hosting when the original host cannot play.
Multiplayer
A long walk works better with a little planning.
Big Walk does not offer random matchmaking. Arrange a regular group, decide who will keep the save, then use the in-game voice or text chat so the world's communication puzzles still make sense.
-
01
Ask who is hosting
The host starts the session and keeps the save. When they end it, everyone disconnects, so the same person should host when your group returns.
-
02
Look for the active friend game
If you are friends on the same platform, the host's active game appears in the friend-game list. Quickest route for most Steam and console players.
-
03
Use a Join Code when the list is empty
The host can share the short code for that session. Mac App Store players use this route because Game Center is not supported on that build.
-
04
Choose the world size with regulars in mind
Treat the 2 / 3 / 4+ choice as the smallest group you expect for the session, not a cap on who can visit.
Platforms
Four ways to buy it, and one catch.
Crossplay covers every combination of platforms, so where you buy it does not decide who you can play with. What it does decide is how people get into your session.
| Platform | Price | Friends list | Online | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steam (Windows / Mac) | $14.99 | Yes | Free | Standard route on PC. |
| Mac App Store | — | No | Free | No Game Center — use Join Codes only. |
| PlayStation 5 | PS Plus Essential (Aug 2026) | Yes | PSN online | Day-one PS Plus monthly for August 2026. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | $14.99 | Yes | NSO required | 3.9 GB download. NSO needed for online play. |

Achievements
Where groups actually stop.
Steam publishes global unlock rates for all 12 achievements. They map the shape of the game better than any walkthrough.
